  1. THE SHORES OF THE UNDEREARTH - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the book, "The White Isle," by Darrell Schweitzer, published by Owlswick Press, 1989.

I received a letter in 1979 from a publisher in Spain, asking if I would be willing to do some illustrations for a science fiction magazine he was planning to publish. I sent a letter back to him saying; Yes, I was willing to do so . . .

About a month later I received a letter of apology from that editor in which he informed me that the corrupt Spanish government would not allow the publication of his SF magazine because it appeared to be anti-government.

In my high school civics class I was taught that because all governments are made up of imperfect human beings:
All governments become corrupt, it's a matter of degree.
All political parties become corrupt, it's only a matter of time.
All government officials become corrupt, sooner or later.

To keep the corruption to a minimum, all politicians need to be replaced periodically. The problem with our government is that we limit the President to two terms (8 years), but we do not limit the terms for congressmen and senators. We need to do that because "that" is where the corruption breeds like gangrene!

I was taught those civics lessons about 70 years ago in grade school. But because it would take both congress and the senate to pass legislation to limit their own terms, nothing has changed.

And so, we are now suffering the consequences . . .
